YOUR DONATION WILL ADVANCE STUDIES OF BLACK BEAR BEHAVIOR, ECOLOGY, AND BEAR-HUMAN RELATIONS THROUGH OUR KINDER, GENTLER RESEARCH METHODS.

LIVING AND LEARNING TOGETHER

The nonprofit Wildlife Research Institute uses trust rather than traps or tranquilizers to learn far more about black bear life than was thought possible with the old methods. Led by biologist Lynn Rogers, Ph.D., widely known as the Jane Goodall of black bears, WRI researchers combine simple observation with modern technology (radio-telemetry, Geographic Positioning Systems, and live den cams). The data are changing attitudes. Old misconceptions are being replaced with scientific facts. To disseminate the information, WRI researchers publish peer-reviewed scientific papers and work through media outlets like the BBC, National Geographic, Animal Planet, Discovery Channel and others to reach over a hundred million people per year. WRI’s four decades of data are quoted in TV documentaries, textbooks, museums, and outlets such as University of Minnesota, Smithsonian Institute, U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Geological Survey, and others. School classrooms across the country follow WRI’s daily research updates and videos at www.bearstudy.org.

Never has this research and education been more important. Bear habitat is shrinking worldwide as people move into bear country and refuse to coexist with animals they fear. People must learn the true nature of black bears. Learning and teaching that is the WRI’s mission.

DONATIONS WILL HELP CONTINUE AND EXPAND BEAR RESEARCH AND EDUCATION.

Please also donate to the North American Bear Center, http://givemn.razoo.com/story/North-American-Bear-Center that advances the long-term survival of bears through education.

I visit the WRI site daily to read the updates, and I am always impressed with the thoughtful, eloquent posts. I admire the writers' ability to express their feelings, acknowledge pain and loss (after Jason and Hope's deaths), and still remain level-headed, upbeat, and hopeful about the future of Bear research. I love their humility and lack of pretension, and am thankful for their dedication to their work and to sharing it with others. It has become an important part of my day, every day. THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU DO!
