Wags & whiskers is a small, volunteer run 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We do not have a physical shelter and all our animals live in foster homes waiting to be adopted. Because of this, we get to know our animals personalities very well and use this information to match them to an appropriate forever family.

What makes Wags & Whiskers a great rescue is all of our amazing volunteers! We know that we would not be able to to what we do without them! Here are some awesome stories and great things some of our volunteers have to say about us!

~ My fave Wags story is when I wanted to save a Collie/Corgi X. She was suppose to be 5 years old. Then the shelter said she was 8, Roanna (the director) said OK. Then they said she hardly had any teeth left, and Roanna said OK. Then they said she was HW+ and Roanna said "well if Wags doesn't take her no one will". So sweet Bernice came to Wags. She had 2 applications the day she was listed on Petfinder and has a wonderful home. How many rescues would take an old girl, with no teeth and HW positive. She was one of my fav fosters ever!

~ I love Wags because if there is a foster, it doesn't matter what condition the animal is in. Roanna, Stef, and Tymber never worry about the bottom line or tagging the "adoptable" puppies and kittens that get the adoption fees. FIV+, heartworm+, seniors, etc. all find homes with Wags. And when they get here, they are given all the medical care necessary with no hesitation.

~ I looked around a lot before picking a rescue that I thought had the same philosophy's as I do. I couldn't be happier that I picked wags. I felt welcomed and supported immediately and for that I am very thankful! I'm continuously amazed at the willingness and generosity of the wags family.

~ I just want to say thank you to all the fosters at wags!! I heard about wags from my girlfriend who adopted Hunter. I have had the opportunity to foster a few puppies, pick up and bring to there forever homes. I'm just so greatfull for all you great people and lucky for all the dogs you have had come thru all your doors!!!

~ I feel like I can talk to a whole bunch of strangers with the same interest as me. The same desire to help and love animals in need.

~ The Fargo puppies on Craigslist story. "Wags doesn't wait for the dogs to come to them, they go out & get the dogs as well" We had transporters who dropped everything & drove up to Timbuktu to save an entire mite infested litter (some of the fosters got the mites themselves...THAT was fun!!!), who had never seen the inside of a house....& at midnight a line of cars waited to start working these pups into their new lives!

~ I love that Wags takes in all sorts of animals: puppies, senior dogs, kittens, senior cats, bunnies, and even pigs! Also, we're always here for each other. Whenever anyone has a question, it gets answered almost instantly and everyone is so helpful!

There there is Nolan and Luca. They came into our rescue starved and suffering from malnutrition when they were just tiny babies - causing Osteopenia. This caused their bones and muscles to form or grow improperly.... They are now 2 years old. Wags took on the responsibility of caring for these 2 and we took them on as Wags & Whiskers mascots. They do make it to some of our events like the No-kill Walk, Petfest at the Ren fest, and a few others. We hope that you will be able to meet them! They are very precious little boys :)
