Tying the Knot: Songs for Our Fathers-Celebrating African American Men as Fathers and Community Leaders. Help Tie the Knot with Your Support

“Of all the rocks upon which we build our lives we are reminded that family is the most important. And we are called to recognize and honor how critical every father is to that foundation. They are teachers and coaches. They are mentors and role models. They are examples of success and the men who constantly push us toward it!” – President Barack Obama

Tying the Knot: Songs for Our Fathers - A Day of Celebration: Sat, June 16, 2012

Tying the Knot Project is committed to honoring the unbreakable bonds that tie the vital role of fathers in our community to the richness of African American culture. This daylong, community-driven initiative is committed to shining a positive light upon African American men actively engaged in fathering and dedicated to the betterment of our communities.

Tying the Knot, with T Mychael Rambo as Artistic Director & Project Coordinator, is in partnership with Dads Make A Difference, 501(c)3 fiscal agent, Save Our Sons, & Obsidian Arts. Partners have expertise and a proven track record in shaping the lives of young people and promoting positive parenting.

Celebrate African American men through poetry, song, arts & craft, family fun activities, storytelling, photography, dance, & the sharing of informational resources. The day begins with a free Father’s Day Festival & Photography Exhibit, 11:00am to 2:00pm, Wilder Center, 451 Lexington Pkwy N, St Paul.

Thanks to the generous support of Minnesota Public Radio, this spirited day of programming will culminate with an evening performance of Tying the Knot...Songs for Our Fathers, 8:00pm at Historic Fitzgerald Theater, 10 Exchange St, St Paul.

Fulfilling the vision of this full-scale celebration requires additional support to enhance the artistic caliber and far-reaching impact of this initiative.
