The Works is where kids explore how things work! Our mission is to inspire the next generation of innovators and engineers.

The Works is where every child, every family, every teacher is welcomed, encouraged and inspired to engineer – to imagine, design, create, explore, fail, try again, make things, build confidence and create solutions.

We serve groups, educators, and families.

  • Group visits for school classes and youth groups with workshops that enhance learning and fulfill State Science curriculum requirements. The Works offers programs—both in the school and at the center—that boosts academic achievement and increases interest in engineering. The Works is designed for children from Kindergarten through Grade 6.

  • Professional development for elementary educators to inspire thousands more students. The Works has provided guidance and training to over 500 educators in the last 18 months.

  • Public Hours for families to experience the hands-on exhibits and engineering projects. The Works also offers summer camps and classes, and special events that celebrate science and engineering.

We just moved to a new bigger and better facility. Our new address is

9740 Grand Ave, Bloomington, MN 55420

We are just east of 35W in Bloomington. near the intersection of 98th and Lyndale.

The Works has grown dramatically over the past several years. Last year, our attendance soared to over 50,000! That's 20% more than the previous year and nearly three times the attendance of four years ago! The new facility will enable more people to experience The Works' unique hands-on activities that explore how things work and inspire an interest in engineering, innovation, and problem-solving.

You can help us by making a tax-deductible contribution today!

Both of the ten year olds I brought were fascinated, not wanting to move on, just playing and experimenting at each station. It's a playground for the brain!

The Works is a great place! It fills a valuable niche providing hands-on science education desperately needed to engage & excite kids & help prepare them for competing globally. It also will require an inter-disciplinary "minds-on" approach to invent new ways of creating and harnessing energy to save the planet!

This place shows how seriously cool engineering can be. We need more places like this, and we need to support the few we have.

It is a national challenge to ensure that our country is competitive in the 21st century. How can we do that if we don't encourage engineering in the next generation of children?

Thank you to The Works, who has helped answer some of the, "mom, how does this work...?" questions for our family!
