The Soap Factory
The Soap Factory is a laboratory for contemporary arts on the banks of the Mississippi. Here, artists experiment and audiences are engaged.
In a world where you can have 5,000 facebook friends, what is authenticity?
The Soap Factory is authentic. From textured walls of our 120-year-old Victorian building to the passionate dedication of over 150 volunteers every year, The Soap Factory offers a real and immediate experience of the arts.
We present works from over 130 artists annually in three large-scale exhibitions and numerous smaller programs throughout the year. Over 25,000 visitors each year enjoy programs ranging from site-specific installation to performance art, dance, digital media and more.
The Soap Factory offers artists tremendous support in travel, publicity, stipends and materials, all to work within the glorious confines of our 12,000 sq. ft. first floor galleries. Emerging artists find this support essential to building a career, while established artists find a safe haven for exploring a new practice.
Audiences keep coming back for more - in the past five years our audience totals have quadrupled. Said one visitor in 2009, "The Soap Factory is always surprising. I don't always get it, but I'm always glad I came to see it."
