Stuart Pimsler Dance & Theater's mission is to create and perform works by the company's Artistic Co-Directors, Stuart Pimsler and Suzanne Costello; to provide new opportunities for community-inclusive art initiatives; and to promote and strengthen the understanding of dance/theater through public performances of New Works and Repertory as well as Community Connections education and outreach programs. Your tax-deductible contribution will help support the company’s annual programming including the creation of new performance works, community-based initiatives and performers’ salaries.

Stuart Pimsler Dance & Theater (SPDT) is a nationally-recognized performance company that presents annual seasons in the Twin Cities while continuing to tour throughout the U.S. and abroad. SPDT has been presented by The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Dance Theatre Workshop and Central Park's SummerStage (New York City), Jacob's Pillow, The American Dance Festival, and the National Civil Rights Museum, among numerous others. Internationally, the company's work has been presented in Canada, Europe, Israel, Taiwan, Canada, and by the Bermuda Ministry of Culture in 2006.

SPDT's presence in the Twin Cities is widespread as the company maintains distinctive and diverse programming throughout the year. Last season, the Guthrie Theater presented the world premiere of SPDT's newest work, Tales from the Book of Longing , October 2009.

"Pimsler's literary sensibilities fit well at the Guthrie, which commissioned his "The Ends of Love" in 2007. His animated dance drama brings a unique expresivemess to a theater that trades primarily in words." (Pioneer Press)

SPDT has appeared at a range of venues throughout the Twin Cities, including the Ritz Theater, The Southern Theater, The Barbara Barker Center for Dance, Redy Eye Theater, Ten Mann Concert Hall, Illusion Theater, Bryant/Lake Bowl, Patrick's Cabaret, Interact Theater, Intermedia Arts, and the Weisman Museum, as well as The Guthrie.

In addition to SPDT's critically acclaimed perforamance work, the company's Community Connections programs give voice to those populations not traditionally served by the arts. SPDT's projects such as Caring for the Caregiver™ ; The Beauty in Difference; WASH/Working with Artists, Sharing the Healing; and The Family Matters serve many groups. These have included: low-income families; at-risk youth; homeless families; American Indian women in recovery from substance abuse; recent Hmong, Russian and Latino immigrants; teen parents; African-American youth in North Minneapolis; senior citizens in low-income housing; people with mental illness; healthcare professionals; stroke survivors and their caregivers; homeless GLBT teens; etc. (partial list of past participants.) SPDT's role as cultural activist also extends into the Twin Cities dance community where Stuart Pimsler continues to serve as the founder and co-coordinator (with Dana Kassel) of the Minnesota SAGE Awards for Dance.
