Steps of Hope - Team Cheeseburger
Heidi Zetterwall fundraising for AUTISM SOCIETY OF MINNESOTA
Please consider making a donation and sponsoring Team Cheeseburger in the 2011 Steps of Hope for the Autism Society of Minnesota.
Team Cheeseburger is made up of the Zetterwall family and our suporters (this means you too). George is our team leader. He was diagnosed with autism at the age of 2. We have received tremendous support from the Autism Society of Minnesota over the years. George is now 6 years old and attending 1st Grade in a typical classroom with support. We would not be where we are today without the education and support the Autism Society has provided.
This is our 4th year participating in the Steps of Hope Walk. Steps of Hope 2011 will be at Ridgedale Shopping Center in Minnetonka, Minnesota on Sunday, March 6. AuSM keeps all your dollars local. Proceeds from Steps of Hope directly serve families in Minnesota. For 40 years AuSM programs have provided information and support to individuals, families and professionals that care for people living with autism. Steps of Hope Support Grants help promote a better life for those living with autism in the community.
Year after year we get asked about our team name. Many think the name is because of a favorite food, but George is allergic to dairy and can't even eat a cheeseburger. The name came from a favorite computer game George had at the time. In the game you control your character through a maze to eat cheeseburgers on the screen. He loved to play this game. He would wander around the house saying, "ches bur bur!" Since he had very little language at the time, we loved to hear it. Now the name has stuck. We even wear cheeseburger hats at all the events. (and red shirts...George's favorite color)
