St. Louis Park Dollars for Scholars

Please help give St. Louis Park High School graduates their best start! Our best chance for a bright future lies with our children. That’s what the St. Louis Park Chapter of Dollars for Scholars believes and that’s why we work tirelessly to raise funds to offer scholarships to St. Louis Park High School graduating seniors. It’s why we ask our neighbors, parents, alumni and community to give regularly to offer our youth the best start on their future.

St. Louis Park Dollars for Scholars achieved a lofty goal this May. The organization reached the million-dollar mark in scholarship money awarded since it first offered funds for post-secondary education to St. Louis Park High School graduates in 1994. That number represents over 1,500 scholarships awarded in just 18 years.

In 2011, SLP DFS awarded 108 scholarships at our annual Awards Night held in May at the St. Louis Park High School. That’s $80,000 in scholarship money that we awarded to young people from the St. Louis Park community. All of the applicants were interested in continuing education beyond high school, something that is more important than ever with today’s highly competitive workforce.

The all-volunteer DFS Board works with a next-to-nothing budget to request scholarship donations from citizens, educators, former students and local businesses. Volunteer groups comprised of students, families, neighbors, and church and synagogue groups go door-to-door to distribute our annual newsletter and fundraising appeal and we use email to give updates, ask for donations and advertise our scholarships, too.

SLP neighborhoods sponsor many of the scholarships our graduates are so pleased to receive. Other scholarships are sponsored by families, reunion classes and memorial gifts as well as select local business and community groups that demonstrate community support with their donations.
