SMAHC funds arts & humanities projects and provides technical assistance to artists, schools, and arts organizations in the SW MN region.

SMAHC has been promoting the arts by helping fund arts and humanities projects and providing technical assistance to artists, schools, and arts organizations in the 18-county SW Minnesota region for 38 years!

In fiscal year 2012, SMAHC was able to provide $378,681 in matching grants to 120 area organizations and artists! Activities funded include:

  • Community arts festivals
  • Music and dance performances
  • Visual arts exhibits
  • Community theatre productions
  • Field trips and artist residencies for schools
  • Youth attending music camps and taking arts classes
  • Supplies for individual artists to create new bodies of work
  • Artists attending workshops on various techniques
  • Strategic planning and equipment purchases for arts organizations

Also, the SMAHC Art Gallery provides an opportunity for regional artists, especially SMAHC grant recipients, to have solo exhibits.

Visit SMAHC’s website (www.smahc.org) to learn about our grant programs, free grantwriting workshops, regional arts event calendar, or to subscribe to our monthly newsletter, VOICES.

Funding for SMAHC programs and services is provided by memberships and donations from individuals, businesses, organizations, schools, cities and counties; grants from the McKnight Foundation; and an allocation from the Minnesota State Legislature and the Minnesota arts and cultural heritage fund as appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008. We are indebted to our grantors, donors, and members for their support over the years. Thank you!
