The Shelley Joseph-Kordell Memorial Scholarship supports graduate students who have committed to improving the lives of seniors.

Dear Family and Friends,

As many of you may know, my mother worked with seniors as a geriatric care manager. After her death in 2003, our family created the Shelley Joseph-Kordell Scholarship at the University of Minnesota to support bright young minds committed to the field of aging, where a tremendous need still exists.

We felt that this was a fitting tribute - although we couldn't bring my mom back, we could encourage others to carry on her work.

The Shelley Joseph-Kordell Scholarship is the only one of its kind at the University. Since its inception, we have provided funding to nine students. This year we were able to fund 2 scholarships at the $4,000 level; our goal is to fund 5 scholarships at the $5,000 level.

The quality of the Scholarship applicants has been exceptional. In order to keep attracting top students who want to transform the landscape of aging services, we need to maintain significant momentum through the Shelley Joseph-Kordell Scholarship.

Each year, Natalie, Julia and I (and eventually, Alexander) will participate in a 5K race in memory of my mom. We will use this opportunity to fundraise for the Scholarship; it will also be a time each year when my kids will get to know a little bit more about my mom, and connect with her though they did not have the chance to meet her.

This year our race will be on October 28th. Please consider supporting our fundraising efforts by donating to the Shelley Joseph-Kordell Scholarship. Natalie, Julia, and I appreciate your support
