The Seward Neighborhood Group was established in 1960 to make the Seward neighborhood in Minneapolis a better place to live, work, and play.
SNG is a volunteer-driven organization with an elected Board of Directors and these currently active committees:

Seward Neighborhood Group – 2010 Accomplishments
>Re-started a home improvement loan program and hired a Housing Coordinator
>Won a CURA grant to stage a concert series in Matthews Park showcasing East African cultures in Seward
>Worked with Seward Redesign to implement goals from Franklin Avenue Planning, including: advocating for changes to the City’s planned improvements to the Cedar/Franklin Ave. intersection; promoting community involvement in shaping plans for the reconstruction of Riverside Avenue; and approving a loan from NRP funds to help a new restaurant move into the old Seward Co-op space
>Collaborated with neighborhood businesses and over 30 Block Clubs on National Night Out
>Coordinated residents’ discussion groups, weekly Sewing Circles, and the Seward and Somali Weavers’ Collective in the Seward Towers
>Worked with gardeners to establish a long-term lease with the city for the Hub of Heaven Garden site
>Won a two-year grant from the McKnight Foundation to support general operations
>Coordinated with Seward Redesign and other neighbors a vigil, community forum, and memorial fund for victims’ families in the wake of the Seward Market murders
>Community Development, Crime and Safety, Environment, and History Committees organized neighborhood action throughout the year on pedestrian safety, requests for building variances, the routing of high-voltage transmission lines, preserving neighborhood history archives, and many other issues
>Coordinated Garage Sale Days in May with over 100 sales
>Collaborated with the online Seward Neighbors' Forum (forums.edemocracy.org/groups/ mpls-seward) and Seward Profile news blog (sewardprofile.posterous.com) and created a SNG Facebook page (facebook.com/sewardneighborhood) to better inform residents about current news and events
>Supported the 11th Annual Seward Arts Festival, with dozens of local artists and businesses participating
>Worked with Seward residents who won a Hennepin County grant to carry out an Enhanced Recycling pilot project in Seward, slated to begin in fall 2010; also, after over a year of requests, Seward residents successfully lobbied the City of Minneapolis to implement an Organics Collection pilot program in part of the neighborhood, starting in fall 2010
>Formed a Fundraising Committee to create a more stable financial base for years to come
>Supported the Seward Longfellow Restorative Justice Program, which accepted 25 referrals in 2010, resulting in $1500 returned to the community and 75 hours of community service
>Celebrated the 50th anniversary of the founding of SNG!!!
