SAFE HAVEN SHELTER FOR BATTERED WOMEN

Michelle considers Safe Haven Shelter "my light at the end of a very dark tunnel". She came to the Shelter for support from an abusive husband. The support groups and services offered by the Shelter provided a place to share her experience, gain validation and acknowledgement, and left her empowered so that she found the strength to create a healthy life for herself free from violence. Hundreds of women and their children in the Twin Ports area just like Michelle come to Safe Haven Shelter and the Family Justice Center each year seeking a new life. Coming from all classess and backgrounds, they share a similar experience: battered and abused by those who claim to love them. Living in a state of fear on a daily basis is the reality for most of our clients. Providing safety, support, education, legal advocacy, and access to a variety of public services and benefits helps to transform their lives from victim to survivor.
