All donations will go to the first ever playground for a severely impoverished and nearly forgotten community in Vietnam.

Note: John Richert and Marty Marren will also be using this page for their fundraising effort.

The People - this part brought tears to my eyes at my desk. The people in this community basically work and live in or near the garbage dump. Kids have very little to 'play' with. When put to a community decision to have a playground or community garden they chose a playground for the kids! Work for most is all day separating garbage, this is also where much of the food comes from. Parents and kids work to collect plastic bags, separating the garbage from them at the dump for $0.35 / bbl of plastic bags collected. School is from 7-11 or 1-4, 20km from the new dump site where most people live; kids walk, bike, or find other ways to get there. Kids spend the rest of their time working in the dump or trying to get food (fishing). Drinking and gambling to escape the awful reality does occur. The people typically lack any papers or identification, many came from Cambodia and while they have been allowed to live in this desolute neighbourhood they do so without citizenship, passports, and even birth certificates, making it extremely difficult to get ahead. Volunteering oversea's is meant to help us all see that we can make a difference and that is truly is a small world after all.
