The Riverfront Energy Project is already under way. The project consists of a building that will house the equipment necessary to capture waste heat from the UPM Blandin waste stream and an educational room where the public can learn more about alternative energy sources.
This project has three main components:
1) The Educational Dashboard – a computer collects the energy data from the waste stream heat capture system and the other components. This information is put on display so that the public can see how much energy is produced, how each system works, and how much money is being saved. The dashboard will also have questions, based on state educational standards, for students in grades K-12. This information will also be able to be accessed on the web.
2) Photovoltaic (Solar Panels) – The sun’s energy will be used to generate electricity to operate the electrical components within the educational facility.
3) Vertical Wind Turbine – Wind energy will be captured and turned into electricity used to power the components within the educational facility.
