Leading the community in the care of people experiencing a mental illness
When Robert came to Regions Hospital he said he was tired of living. Despite spending days in bed, he could not remember sleeping. What he did recall was a job interview two months previously; it was the last time he had left home. He had lost twenty pounds and gained a load of shame because he could not provide for his family. For the first time in a long time, Robert did not know how to fix a problem himself. He needed help.
Regions plays a central role in the mental health of the Twin Cities
As the largest provider of inpatient mental health services in the Twin Cities East Metro, Regions plays a lead role in the treatment of patients like Robert. The 96 beds in the hospital’s mental health units account for half the beds in the East Metro. Regions works with the HealthPartners Medical Group to offer a comprehensive range of mental health services in numerous locations throughout the Twin Cities, helping people of every age and background by providing for the assessment, stabilization and treatment of mental and chemical health problems. Services include both inpatient and outpatient treatment.
Regions prepares patients for life outside of treatment
Whether a patient admitted to Regions is experiencing a one-time mental health crisis or a serious mental illness, our care providers will help stabilize the condition and set them up with ongoing care. With the permission of patients, we will encourage their primary caregivers, social workers and family members to get involved in their care so they can help correct situations that are exacerbating the problem. We go to these lengths because it is the ultimate goal of our patients to live their lives independently, and that involves more than relieving a temporary crisis.
We are building a new mental health facility
People who experience a mental illness deserve the same high quality care as other patients. However, with low reimbursement rates, mental health facilities across the community have fallen behind those that cater to other conditions.
That is why Regions is building a new mental health building to open in late 2012. The facility will include eight floors, 100 private beds and baths, more than twice the floor space of our current facility and room for future expansion. When completed, it will be the only mental health facility in the Twin Cities with all private rooms and will allow us to provide state-of-the-art care in a way that helps patients retain their privacy and dignity.
Charitable contributions fund a variety of mental health programs and services
Charitable contributions play an important role in the care we provide to patients experiencing a mental illness, whether it is new and improved facilities, educational materials, or funds that help patients afford medications and basic needs items during temporary financial crises. Mental health issues are a growing problem in our community, and public funds to serve patients experiencing these issues have dwindled over the last few years. Please help us provide the very best mental health care with a contribution today.
