Leading the state in the care of critically injured kids

When six-year-old Julia Griggs ran into a tree while skiing in Dec. 2009, she was rushed to Regions Hospital. The use of a helmet undoubtedly saved her life, but she still suffered a fractured tibia, a broken nose and other facial injuries. “Julia’s multi-trauma injuries required a multi-specialty approach,” said Mengnai Li, M.D., chief of pediatric orthopaedic surgery at Regions. Dr. Li performed minimally-invasive surgery on Julia’s right leg as part of her care. “A Level I Pediatric Trauma Center like Regions is the best place to coordinate every expertise in the shortest period of time.”

We are the only Level I Pediatric Trauma Center in the Twin Cities

Regions, working in partnership with Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare, is the only hospital in the Twin Cities East Metro where you can find this level of coordination, with pediatric specialists in surgery, neurosurgery, orthopaedics, critical care, physical medicine and rehabilitation. Regions also has operating rooms available on a moment’s notice, around the clock, and the expertise that comes from treating 1,200 pediatric trauma cases each year. In June 2009, the Regions/Gillette partnership became the first Level I Pediatric Trauma Center in Minnesota as designated by the American College of Surgeons.

Your donation will help us maintain the highest level of care

Dr. Li donated to the Level I Pediatric Trauma Center and encourages others to donate as well. Contributions fund the equipment, facility improvements, personnel and educational resources necessary to maintain the designation of Level I Pediatric Trauma Center. “When we serve our kids, we serve the future,” Dr. Li said.
