Babies don't come with operating instructions, do they? Parents need all the support they can get.

One of the most stressful decisions a parent makes is child care. It often comes down to what is convenient ("I found the perfect day care: it's right on the way to work!") or safety ("It's licensed!"). But how do families find programs that will help their child grow in mind, body and spirit? Nicole thought she had her son’s child care needs sorted out until her provider notified her that she was leaving the business. With limited time and resources, Nicole found the process of finding suitable child care daunting. “I got to the point where I was just driving around the neighborhood, looking for signs about child care,” she recalls. Katie faced the same dilemma, and being a parent who worked evening hours complicated her search even more. She had only two weeks to find new child care arrangements and called Resources for Child Caring for help. Referral counselors gave Katie a packet with tips on choosing care and a list of possible providers. “When I started looking, I had no idea what kind of questions to ask about things like emergencies, licensing, references or food,” Katie says. “Resources for Child Caring helped me with all these things.” By the time Nicole called Resources for Child Caring, her deadline was even tighter than Katie’s; the provider who cared for Nicole’s son was closing up shop in two days. RCC’s referral specialist sent a list of providers via e-mail, and Nicole found someone the very next day. She is now very pleased with her new provider’s attention to safety and with the amount of attention her son receives. “If I hadn’t made that call to your agency, I wouldn’t have found a long-term solution,” Nicole says.
