Our team raises funds for practice equipment, educational resources for swimmers, our travel budget, team awards and more.
The number of High School, YMCA/YWCA and USA Swimming teams in Minneapolis has been rapidly shrinking over the last ten years. Lack of Equipment, access to quality instruction, and access to safe and clean facilities have meant that multiple groups in Minneapolis have merged with other teams or removed programming altogether. Swimming is a lifelong activity for health and fitness, and an experience in character- and team-building for young athletes. Our team has beaten the trend and grown significantly over the last decade.
We've grown from 40 to over 200 swimmers thanks to a generous organization and the support of many parents, friends and families. We've added a brief introductory program for new swimmers and a Senior program for high school athletes. We have access to an excellent scholarship program launched in part by the Otters youth relay across the English Channel three years ago. We've seen swimmers compete at all levels of the sport, including state and regional championship meets.
With this success has come a need for more infrastructure and support. Traveling to meets, purchasing end-of-season awards, and many other things require funds. Our annual swim-a-thon is a way for our swimmers demonstrate their commitment to the team and organization- please help us by showing yours!
Swimmers are rewarded for their efforts with team gear. Your donation will be treated as tax-deductible and you will receive a letter from the YWCA for use on your 2010 taxes.
