The North Minneapolis Recovery Fund will support the immediate & long-term needs of those affected by tornado in May 2011. Donate at right.

Please continue to support North Minneapolis as the tornado relief work shifts from emergency response to long term recovery. There’s still a need to support this vital part of our community as it emerges from this tragedy. Credit card fees will be covered until $500,000.

.....................................................................................................................................

On Sunday, May 22, 2011, North Minneapolis experienced the devastating chaos of a severe tornado system, tragically leaving one resident dead, injuring dozens more and rendering hundreds homeless as trees, water and debris destroyed families’ homes and the security of their community. As families regroup, individuals and organizations across Minnesota are already extending their generosity to their North Minneapolis neighbors.

The Minnesota Helps - North Minneapolis Recovery Fund will support the immediate and long-term needs of the individuals and families in North Minneapolis impacted by the May 22, 2011 tornado. The Minneapolis Foundation, in partnership with United Way and additional partners provided a dollar-for-dollar match up to $300,000 to rebuild this community.

How it works
Contributions to the Fund will be pooled and then allocated jointly by the sponsoring organizations to nonprofits that are providing support to those most affected by this tragedy – both immediately and in the coming months.

GiveMN covered the 2.9% credit card processing fee for up to $200,000 and The Minneapolis Foundation is covering an additional $300,000 more so that 100% of these donations will be redistributed to provide financial support where they are urgently needed.

Donations will be used for immediate and long-term needs (housing, food, and other services) of the people affected by the tornado.

Please check back for updates on how the funds will be distributed.
