NIMBUS THEATRE

nimbus believes in art as a medium, conduit, and an end unto itself. It is immediate, malleable, all-encompassing, yet strangely yours. nimbus believes in theatre as a collaboration of individuals in the the hopes of becoming greater than the sum of its parts; a dialog of artists and audience asking unanswerable questions.

nimbus was founded in 2001 with the goal of creating a thoroughly postmodern professional theatre – one that resonates with the current world we live in, with its rapid exchange of ideas, aesthetics, and its interconnected and vibrant complexity. A theatre that challenges its audiences to think, whose goal is the creation of contemporary conversation.

Itinerant for its first three years of existence, nimbus settled in Uptown in 2005, producing at the Minneapolis Theater Garage and Intermedia Arts. In December 2010, nimbus announced the opening of a brand-new performance space in Northeast Minneapolis, at 1517 Central Ave. NE. This 75-seat venue will serve as a permanent home for the company, as well as a rental space for other theater companies and community groups.

In the past ten years, nimbus has presented twenty-six plays. Seventeen of these have been regional premieres, and fourteen have been new work, created either by emerging playwrights or the company itself. nimbus has consistently been known for taking risks and producing edgy, provocative works. Throughout its history, nimbus has received notice and critical acclaim for making bold choices, choosing challenging material, and pushing the theatrical form.
