NaNoWriMo for Rainbow Rumpus!
A fundraiser supporting RAINBOW RUMPUS

Sponsor Deborah's National Novel Writing Month by donating to Rainbow Rumpus, the only online magazine for youth with LGBT parents!

Rainbow Rumpus helps build community among LGBT-headed families around the world, creating a space to share stories with kids, young adults, parents, teachers, and friends.

This year, I'm participating in National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), which is something like a literary, intellectual marathon. The goal is to complete a 50,000-word novel between November 1 and November 30-- which means writing 1,666 and 2/3 words per day. To keep this mad, mad writing month somewhat sane, I'm asking for sponsorships and donations from friends and family; not only are you supporting a silly little unpublishable novel, but you're also helping a small nonprofit publication thrive.

Here's why you should support Rainbow Rumpus:
1. We're the world’s only online magazine for youth with LGBT parents, providing an online resource for everything from kids' stories to teacher guides.
2. Donations not only help keep the site running but also help it to thrive. Website redesigns, production equipment, and extras--like our recent printable pdf book releases--are all funded by donations like yours.
3. Rainbow Rumpus pays its writers and illustrators, contributing to a sustainable model for creative content! Although Rainbow Rumpus has a significant volunteer base (of which I am a part), paying our creative writers and illustrators provides a variety of quality content each month.
4. And, in the vein of NaNoWriMo, Rainbow Rumpus encourages young people to read, participate, and create their own stories-- either on paper or within other parts of their lives.

I'd also like to establish that my NaNoWriMo writings will not be geared toward the young Rainbow Rumpus audience, nor will the content of my NaNoWriMo project be in any way related to the content of the magazine.

And, to motivate both me and you, dear donator, there are a few methods of sponsorship I've devised:

-Any donation above $5 gets you a copy of the finished product, all 50,000 words, even the crappy parts. That's cheaper than an $8.99 copy of Sarah Palin's Going Rogue at Wal-Mart!
-With a donation of $10, you can sponsor a word. Almost any word. Word #9 or #23,456 or word #49,999. By sponsoring a word, you will have motivated me to get to that word, and the day I write that word, I'll send you an email of gracious thanks and let you know the word-- maybe even the sentence-- that you sponsored.
-If you donate $20, I'll send you a Christmas card with a mix cd in December as thanks. (Obviously, I'll need your address, which you can email to deborahcarver@gmail.com.)
-By giving $50, you can request a word, within reason. You can say, "I'd like word #45,008 to be 'enraptured'" and I will do my best to make it so, within five words of the request. (Please don't pick words that would be inappropriate for children--not because this is for kids, but because those are harder to fit into a narrative.)
-By donating $100, you will officially sponsor word 50,000.

THANK YOU for your support!
