Sankofa client’s success story
Mary (not her real name) is a 21 year old young lady with a one year old toddler that has experienced long term homelessness. She entered Model Cities’ Sankofa supportive housing program in May 2010. While in the Sankofa program Mary obtained her high school diploma from City Academy high school in June 2011. She is currently enrolled at Century College pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice. In addition to pursuing her post secondary education, Mary is also currently working as a personal care assistant for a home health care agency.
Mary is a loving and supportive parent who is concerned about her daughter’s development. She is committed to improving her parenting skills and faithfully meets with her parent educator. Mary is a very active Sankofa program participant. Mary has participated in various empowerment workshops and a parent support group offered by Model Cities, and has obtained a certificate for completing the Four Cornerstones of Financial Literacy workshops.
Support to Model Cities will help Mary and other Sankofa programs participants to live a stable, healthy, productive, and self sufficient lives.
