MINNESOTA STATE ACADEMY FOR THE BLIND FOUNDATION
A US registered nonprofit
It was heartwarming to hear the "Thank you" for our all volunteer board as we celebrated the completion in October 2009 of an obstacle course for the students at the Academy. The teachers and staff designed the course to serve the needs of the students to accept challenges which are fun and build their self confidence. This course uses the sense of touch, sound, and smell to develop their skills and also provide physical exercise. This concept developed by the teachers and staff was presented to the Board for funding consideration because it would be beneficial to the students and could not be funded through the normal budget. In 2008 our major project was a bike path on eleven acres of school property. Students love the experience of a bike ride in a safe environment. In 2010 we will focus on learning through the arts and training for parents as well as students in assistive technology. It is a great feeling to be a part of helping students achieve their goals.
