We want to tell you a story. It’s a story of people from 43
nations who came from around the world with a dream of starting their lives
over.
They found unbelievable opportunity to build a new life.
They also found unimaginable wealth beneath their feet – iron ore. The iron ore sparked a drama that unlike anything the world had even seen – the Industrial Revolution. It made gave miners a living, made millionaires of some, and
billionaires of others. The United States used the ore to build itself into a superpower.
Why does it matter? Because stories are destiny. Stories determine our present. They make us what we are.
They also point the way to the future. The themes of hope and imagination and family and work are just as important now. The Discovery Center is a place where you can learn about the past, understand the present and imagine the future.
