MCFS works collaboratively with its partners to provide technology solutions and skills training to individuals in need.
Education. Environment. Employment.
Take a minute and image how your life would be different if you didn’t have access to a computer. How would you work? How would you stay connected with the rest of the world? How would you learn?
Thousands of children in Minnesota don’t have access to a computer – making it difficult to complete schoolwork, correspond with employers, universities, friends and teachers via modern communication methods, and become literate with 21st century technology.
At Minnesota Computers for Schools, we train inmates at the Stillwater Correctional Facility to refurbish and recycle computers donated by local businesses. The refurbished computers are then customized and placed in schools throughout the state. Since 1997, we’ve:
We’re thrilled to have reached so many children in Minnesota, but sadly there are still thousands of kids who don’t have access to reliable technology. Our goal is to make sure every child in Minnesota has access to a computer so they can develop the necessary skills for success in school and the workforce.
That’s why we need your help. A single computer with LCD costs less than $275 and can change a kid’s life forever. Your gift today can help provide computer access to students who struggle everyday when teachers require them to type a paper, submit homework via email and conduct research. Just $50 or even $25 will help provide these students with much-needed access to help them succeed in school.
One student from Gordon Parks High School had been disengaged from school for a long time and was given the opportunity to earn a free laptop from MCFS by maintaining 80 percent or higher attendance and excellent class performance. Having a laptop changed her life. “Now I’m starting to come to school every day so I can graduate and my grades are getting better.” When asked how she was going to use the laptop, her answer was simple: “For college.”
Any gift amount will help us get computers in the hands of students in Minnesota. Thank you in advance for helping us work toward changing the lives of children through access to technology.
