The ACLU-MN defends individuals from governmental violations of rights guaranteed them in the Bill of Rights.

The ACLU-MN defends the foundations upon which American democracy is based; the Constitution of the United States and the Bill of Rights. The most fundamental rights which we would like to take for granted, such as freedom of speech, separation of church and state, and the right to peacefully assemble are regularly assailed.

Your support of the ACLU-MN protects your civil liberties and those of all Minnesotans through public education, lobbying and litigation. Your donations help leverage the valuable services of Minnesota attorneys who donate thousands of hours of pro-bono work annually.

Our most public recent successes are the defeat of the proposed constitutional amendments limiting marriage and requiring voter id. We worked on these as part of the coalitions, Minnesotans United for All Families and Our Vote Our Future and through our own campaign Vote No 2012.

Among our other successes in the last twelve months is the completion of the case against the Tarek ibn Ziyad Academy, which was using public funds to promote religion. Another is the completion of the first year of operation of the Greater Minnesota Racial Justice Program, based in Mankato, which focuses on the elimination of racial injustice.

Your donation on November 15th will fund this work, while also leveraging a $6,000 matching challenge from ACLU-MN board members. By donating today, you can help us assure that our founding fathers’ vision of our country is a reality. You can protect their vision of an America where everyone is created equal and endowed with certain inalienable rights, including life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
