MillennialDEBT.org
A project of STUDENT VOLUNTEER FOUNDATION
The idea was conceived and funded at a Democracy 2.0 summit convened by Moblilze.org and the Peter G. Peterson Foundation in November 2009.
MillennialDEBT aims to use new technology and online social networking to rally the Millennial Generation into action around our nation’s long-term fiscal crisis. Our efforts over the next few weeks will concentrate on the upcoming vote in Congress to raise the federal debt ceiling. We will use this as a rallying point to spread awareness about fiscal issues and to advocate for the creation of a bipartisan fiscal stewardship commission.
Here is our three-step plan:
Step 1 (now until 12/17):
- Draft an Open Letter to Congress from the Millennial Generation through an online collaborative process
- Connect online and begin a conversation
Step 2 (12/17-Vote Day):
- Gather at least 1,000 signatures on the letter
- Have people send the letter to their Senators and Representative
- Generate phone calls into Congress advocating for a fiscal stewardship commission
Step 3 (Vote Day):
- Hold a Virtual March on Washington through an online awareness campaign
- Facilitate an online town hall meeting with young people and key Members of Congress
