A project of Mid Minnesota Legal Aid
Make a gift to change a life.
Legal Aid makes a difference in the community because we change lives — helping people find their path out of poverty, helping people get the access to justice that we all want, and ensuring people have an opportunity to live independently and have an opportunity to contribute to making our society of better place to live.
At Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid, we specialize in providing professional legal help to Minnesotans who traditionally lack access to the American justice system and cannot afford an attorney.
A recent focus of the St. Cloud Office has been helping people access health care. Here are the stories of a few of the people we helped.
-Jessica desperately needed healthcare coverage. She lost her oldest son to suicide, and she and her other child were fleeing a domestic violence situation. Jessica was afraid to apply with the county because of an accusation of fraud in getting food support. Legal Aid successfully proved the fraud accusation was false, and went on to help her with the insurance application. Jessica and her family can continue to move forward in their lives having obtained safety, nutrition, and health care.
-Robert is a 98-year-old WWII veteran with an income of $1,035 per month. He faced $47,000 in medical bills after Medicare paid its share. Legal Aid helped him fill out applications for insurance. The back medical bills have been paid, and Robert has ongoing coverage for any future medical needs.
Mid-Minneosta Legal Aid's St. Cloud Office provides legal advocacy for Minnesotans in Benton, Chisago, Isanti, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Sherburne, Stearns, Todd and Wright counties. To learn more about Legal Aid and the people we serve, go to www.mylegalaid.org.
