During March Goodness, Starfish Ministries is raising funds to help fund our newest outreach to KaRen refugees in St. Paul.
The KaRen are newly arrived refugees who are struggling to learn English, gain employment skills and become comfortable in this country. Starfish Ministries recently leased space within 2 miles of the apartments where many of the Karen live in St. Paul. We are using the space for homework help and tutoring at this time. We are working to begin ESL and other helpful classes at the location.
In addition, we are planning to add a KaRen speaking staff person this fall who will be able to help us identify the assets the KaRen bring with them and how those assets can be utilized in this country. And, as a result, we will be able to identify what additional resources they need to become self-reliant sooner.
The costs associated with this outreach are $1,000 a month for the leased space and, in the fall, about $1,500 a month for the new staff.
All donations are received and receipted by Razoo Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) charity that operates a donor advised fund to fulfill donor advisements.
