Your gift supports Magnum Chorum as we offer choral music of transforming artistry and spirit to listeners throughout the Midwest. Thanks!

Recognized for expressive singing and inspired programs, Magnum Chorum brings artistry and spirit to a cappella choral music. The 50+ voice chamber choir presents colorful concerts, commissions and premieres new sacred works, and provides music for worship. Founded in the choral tradition of St. Olaf College, the choir welcomes singers of all backgrounds devoted to musical excellence in sacred choral music. Now offering its 23rd season, Magnum Chorum also serves as Choir in Residence at Westwood Lutheran Church in St. Louis Park, MN.

Magnum Chorum has performed with distinguished conductors including Anton Armstrong, Kenneth Jennings, Dale Warland, Weston Noble, René Clausen, Philip Brunelle, Craig Hella Johnson, and Osmo Vänskä, and collaborated with prominent composers such as Stephen Paulus, Frank Ferko, Libby Larsen, Ken Jennings, Ralph Johnson and Stanford Scriven.

The ensemble has been featured at regional and national conferences of the American Choral Director’s Association, Chorus America, American Guild of Organists, American Hymn Society and College Music Society. The choir’s recordings are broadcast in the U.S. and Canada on public radio and classical music stations. Our name, Magnum Chorum, is intended to convey the importance of the choir in expressing the divine and the infinite through voice, music, and text.

The choir’s 7 recordings are broadcast nationally and locally on public radio and classical music stations. The most recent recording, "With A Voice of Singing: the music of Kenneth Jennings," was released December 2012, and features the choir live in concert under the direction of Christopher Aspaas.

Come hear for yourself! On December 14 and 15, we offer Fill Us With Thy Radiance, Now and Evermore Christmas Concerts celebrating the birth of the Christ child. Directed by guest conductor Mark Stover, you’ll hear O Nata Lux by Lauridsen, In Winter’s Night by Forsberg, and Salvation is Created by Chesnokov. Savor the dramatic Ave Maria by Verdi and Palestrina’s Hodie Christus Natus Est joyfully proclaiming Christ’s birth. With cello, Rutter’s melodic Carol of the Magi illuminates their journey to a lowly stable lit by the Eastern Star. We lift up our voices in a rousing African spiritual and Heleluyan, a traditional Muskogee (Creek) Indian song. Ola Gjeilo’s heavenly Serenity, Carraciolo’s stirring Jesus I Adore Thee, and beloved music by Christiansen and Clausen promise a splendid moment for you and yours at Wayzata Community Church and Chapel of St. Thomas Aquinas.
