FUNdamentals Tutoring with LUYF

We connect neighborhood volunteers with children seeking help with their studies. We can all relate to the everyday stress of school work and many need support beyond what family and schools can offer. LUYF gives one to one attention through engaging conversation, games, and homework sessions.

These kids read more, work harder on difficult subjects, stay focused and finish their assignments. Upon arriving, they hurry to greet their tutors, excited to make decisions about what to do that night. Every volunteer makes the world a better place by giving our community’s children support that lasts a lifetime.

Since 1995, Longfellow United for Youth & Families has united generations and community resources to develop caring, capable and contributing youth in the Longfellow Community of eastern Minneapolis.

We do so as a predominantly — at times, exclusively — volunteer effort. LUYF’s people dedicate so much of their time and talent because they love the Longfellow Community, and especially its youth. Tutors and students return yearly to FUNdamentals at an 80 percent retention rate. This lets stable, nurturing relationships grow in a safe environment.

LUYF provides a nonprofit organizational structure for Longfellow Community residents who consider their community’s youth a blessing — valuable assets, not problems to cope with — and want to take action on their behalf.
