LEGAL SERVICES OF NORTHWEST MINNESOTA INC

Founded in 1976, LSNM is a private non-profit corporation which receives federal, state, and private funding to serve the legal needs of low income or elderly residents of 22 counties. It is not a government agency, nor is it a politically based program. LSNM uses a combination of staff attorneys and private attorneys to deliver legal services.

Legal Services of Northwest Minnesota provides high quality legal representation and community legal education to low-income and elderly persons in 22 northwestern Minnesota counties, using four staffed law offices and 210 private Judicare attorneys.

Representation focuses on priority cases, generally those most critical to life, health, safety, shelter, and basic subsistence income in a respectful and courteous way that preserves and promotes the dignity of each client, LSNM staff and Judicare attorneys assist individuals and eligible groups to:

• know and enforce their legal rights;
• obtain effective access to courts, forums, or administrative agencies; and
• acquire and preserve benefits, services and entitlements necessary to become self-reliant to the extent permitted by individual circumstances and abilities.
