Lakes Area Music Festival
A project of CROSSING ARTS ALLIANCE
LAMF provides Central MN with free, world-class classical music concerts, promotes Lakes Area musicians, and educates and builds communities
The Lakes Area Music Festival enriches Central Minnesota with world-class classical music performances. LAMF raises cultural literacy, fosters the talents of community musicians and top music students from around the country through collaboration with players in America's best professional orchestras, and provides educational opportunities to audiences of all ages, free of charge.
Begun in 2009 by Brainerd native, Scott Lykins, the Lakes Area Music Festival (www.lakesareamusic.org) is an opportunity for music-lovers to enjoy world class performances in the North Woods of Minnesota. Scott, a cellist and graduate of the Eastman School of Music, has invited 30 musicians from all over the country, including members of the Minnesota Orchestra, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, and Milwaukee Symphony, to collaborate in six chamber music concerts in the month of August. Exceptional local talents will also be featured in addition to students of the Eastman School, the Juilliard School, Yale, and the Curtis Institute. Together, these musicians will present the widest possible range of classical music: works for strings, voices, piano, and even chamber orchestra. We seek to energize the Lakes Area through musical excellence and collaboration. We celebrate classical music as a timeless form of entertainment, and we celebrate our community for its wealth of talented and cultured individuals. Please show your support for our endeavor and make the Lakes Area Chamber Music Festival a permanent artistic resource in Minnesota.
