Intermedia Arts: Changing the World One Artist at a Time
Intermedia Arts. Changing the world, one artist at a time.
Artists are our superheroes. Every day they are changing the world, one brush stroke, one head-spin, one photo, one word at a time.
And now, it is your turn to support these heroes in their work. Artists challenge us to transform ourselves and our world. They ask questions. They challenge authority. They provide context and texture for our lives.
Like playwright, poet and performance artist May-Lee Yang. Born in Ban Vinai, a refugee camp in Thailand following the Secret War in Laos, May moved with her family to Saint Paul, MN where she lives to this day. May's theater work, Confessions of a Lazy Hmong Woman, showcased at Intermedia Arts to sold out houses and uses humor to challenge expectations and explores the lives of Hmong women, and living in a bicultural world.
At Intermedia Arts, we honor the talent, hard work and guts it takes to be an artist. We provide tools and create a safe space for artists to explore and experiment. We value artists. We value their processes. We value their work and we take risks together.
Like playwright, performer, and poet Robert Karimi who has spent the last two years in residence at Intermedia Arts hard at work and play in our gallery, theater and kitchen focusing on the epidemic of Type 2 Diabetes in communities of color. After learning his own Iranian father had contracted Type 2 diabetes, Robert began the creation of his new interdisciplinary work 28 Days of Good Energia- incorporating music, documentary-style video, storytelling, political discussion and humor – as well as live cooking and eating together- this work is bringing people together to reconnect to their food stories and feeding their soul.
Artists are Changemakers. They bring people together, build bridges of understanding, and empower others to produce their own representations of life, to tell their own stories.
Like Musician, Muralist, and Community Organizer Chaka MKali who once an incarcerated teen himself is now a transformative leader, who uses the power of hip-hop music and murals to reach, teach and organize young people and communities of color in the Phillips Neighborhood of South Minneapolis.
Artists are our heroes. Support a hero today with your donation.
