Improving the Depot Museum

The Aitkin County Historical Society currently operates two display buildings along the railroad tracks in Aitkin Minnesota. We have a third building used for storing artifacts that are not currently on display. All three of these buildings are temperature and humidity controlled to preserve the artifacts. We also maintain a fourth building, a log cabin located on the Aitkin County Fair grounds. The Society is currently looking at increasing the size of our second display building and adding a fifth building. The new building would be a cold storage building for keeping artifacts out of the weather. By increasing the size of our second display building we will be able to move several displays out of the Depot and use that space to create a research facility for visitors to do anchestry and other research. We will also be able to add some additional displays for our visitors to study.
