Margaret—a 72 year-old woman—was having a hard time stretching her budget to afford groceries. “I don’t need much,” she said. “But, I wish I could get fresh tomatoes when I go to the store.” We helped connect her to the food resources she needed. At the end of the call Margaret exclaimed, “Oh, thank you! Now I’m going to be able to buy tomatoes!”

Sylvia called weeping. Her husband Joe had served in the military before being injured. She said that due to a paperwork error, they would not get their November check until mid-December. They had no other source of income to feed themselves and their two children. “How are we going to put food on the table for our girls?” she asked. We helped Sylvia enroll in an emergency food assistance program and helped her find a food shelf nearby. At the end of the call, she said, “Thank you so much. Knowing the kids will be okay makes it easier for us to figure out everything else.”

These are just two stories of the thousands we receive each year from Minnesotans whose sense of food security has been restored.
