Homeward Bound's mission is to be the leading provider of life-enriching services for children and adults with disabilities.
Homeward Bound is a partnership between spirited individuals with disabilities and the caring people committed to providing life-affirming growth experiences.
Here is one of the many stories of an individual who lives at Homeward Bound, shared by her family -- Laurie B. -- In 1980 Laurie’s family was facing a difficult choice. When Laurie was six, Mary, Laurie’s mom and her family made the heart-breaking decision to leave their first born child at a foster home. Laurie was living in this foster home located a distance from her family when they were informed the home was no longer able to remain open. At that time, Laurie’s family heard about a new organization called Homeward Bound. Homeward Bound’s plan was to open a home in New Hope for children with disabilities. Their dream was realized in 1980 when Laurie moved into Homeward Bound’s New Hope home. “It was the best thing our family did,” says Mary, “Laurie was close to home and we were able to see her often.” As Laurie blossomed into a beautiful young woman, the family continued to be deeply involved in her life. Laurie learned how to walk and to communicate in new and exciting ways. Mary said, “The things she can do today are because of Homeward Bound and her caregivers.” In 1997, Homeward Bound opened Fountain Lane home in Plymouth and Laurie moved into a new four-bedroom home. Laurie’s family still visits often and always enjoy their stay at Laurie’s home. “Homeward Bound means the world to us. If Laurie had not come to Homeward Bound she would not be who she is today”. Laurie continues to gain new skills that surprise the Fountain Lane staff and her family. “It makes me so happy for Laurie,” Mary says, “I can’t imagine something better for her.”
