Jeremiah Program's on-site Childhood Development Centers (CDC) is a place where dedicated early childhood development teachers collaborate with residents on positive parenting skills, emotional and social development, and partner to ensure children are ready to succeed in kindergarten.
While women are attending college and working part time, they rely on County Child Care Assistance to help cover the cost of child care. The recent cuts in the 2011 Minnesota state budget resulted in the enforcement of a 2-year limit for child care assistance funding (down from 4 years). This gap creates a big financial obstacle for Jeremiah residents seeking a 4-year college degree and places our families at risk of losing funding while still needing child care.
Paige currently resides at the Jeremiah Program Minneapolis Campus and is pursuing her Bachelors degree at Metro State for Criminal Justice Studies. She has earned a 3.0 GPA and plans to support the freedom of other women by working to improve the legal system related to human trafficking. Paige is mother to a 3 year old son who is full time at Jeremiah Program's 4 Star Quality Rated Child Development Center preparing for success in school. In addition to full time classwork, Paige volunteers at the Tubman Center to help qualify her son for child care assistance. Since Paige has attended college more than 24 months, none of her school hours count towards helping with child care costs.
Paige is not alone in this predicament. Many families at Jeremiah Program are facing similar challenges. Every dollar raised helps keep families on track to achieving their educational goals and dreams!
