Without the care Liana and Amaya received at Children's after being born 10 weeks prematurely, they might not be alive today.

After being diagnosed with Twin-to-Twin Transfusion at 17 weeks, we knew that the best possible outcome was for our daughters to survive long enough in-utero, so they had a chance of survival once they were born prematurely. They made it 13 weeks and were born at 30 weeks 0 days, weighing 2 lbs 6 oz (Liana) and 2 lbs 12 oz (Amaya). Liana's lung function was severely compromised from the 7 weeks she spent in-utero without amniotic fluid. The neonatologist attending her birth told us later he hadn't expected her to survive. But through the miracle of modern neonatal intensive care, both she and her sister did extremely well and came home 7 and 7 1/2 weeks later without any medication, oxygen, or heart rate montior. Now, a year later, aside from being small for their age, they are healthy and happy little girls. One would never know what a rough start they had!
