Increased demand this year (1300 to 2000 clients a month) requires more than 32,000 lbs of food. Around 200 of those are homeless youth.

Groveland Food Shelf is made up of two programs. The first (GEFS) is a normal food shelf serving adults and families living in a specific geographic area near downtown Minneapolis. The second program, Groveland Food For Youth (GFFY) serves homeless youth from anywhere in the Twin Cities up to age 23 through a collaboration with Pillsbury House's "Street Survival" program. The food shelf was founded by four local churches in 1974. Since 2003 it has operated as an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation now supported by five church congregations and many community organizations, foundations and corporations.

    Being a first-time parent, I feel very lucky that I'm able to meet all my daughter's needs for food, shelter, safety, and love. It breaks my heart to think their are children in my own neighborhood who don't get enough to eat. Thank you for the important service you provide.
