Friends of the Refuge Headwaters
Friends of the Refuge Headwaters is a citizen-based, non-profit organization that supports the Winona District of the Upper Miss Refuge
The Friends of the Refuge Headwaters (FORH) hosts special fishing events throughout the year to get children outside. We also offer, free of charge, fishing events for persons with disabilities and for new and transitioning immigrants to our area (Winona, MN).
Our largest event is held each winter where we take 80 children ice fishing. Many of the children come from homes where ice fishing is not a regular past-time, so our event is often credited for the children learning how to fish and encouraging the whole family to get outside in the winter.
We provide the poles, bait, and lunch. We also have a number of activities inside a warming shelter. These activities include arts-and-crafts and educational stations. The children get to take home any projects they create.
