Your contriubtion to the Friends of Christ Church Lutheran will help to preserve and promote this historic Saarinen landmark.
In 1949, Christ Church Lutheran was constructed using common, but attractive building materials to convey an “honest” and modern expression of post-World War II spirituality. Today, those materials are showing the effects of six decades of exposure and erosion. The church’s bell tower is literally self-destructing: mortar is deteriorating, brick is spalling, and the welds that attach the cross to the tower are failing. This serious deterioration will continue to damage surrounding brick unless it is addressed. To preserve the integrity of the iconic tower we will need to grind out the joints containing rods and then re-point the mortar in accordance with historically appropriate methods. The project is anticpated to cost in excess of $300,000. Every dollar counts, so please contribute to help preserve this architectural masterpiece for the enjoyment and inspiration of future generations.
