Freedom Farm provides therapeutic horseback riding therapy to children and adults with special needs.

Freedom Farm’s mission is to improve mobility and build confidence in children and adults with physical, mental and emotional challenges by using the unique attributes of the horse. Located south of Waverly, MN, Freedom Ffarm was established in December of 2000 by Susie Bjorklund. In the past 10 years, Freedom Farm has grown significantly. We now have over 50 riders participating, 11 therapy horses and 100 active volunteers. In keeping with our mission, our goals are: • To provide a safe, supportive and respectful environment for rider and horse • To help children with all types of physical, mental and emotional challenges improve mobility and build confidence • To strengthen family relationships by encouraging family members to participate in riding sessions and/or other Freedom Farm-sponsored activities • To raise enough money to provide therapy at a low cost to participants so that access to the program is based on need and potential benefit, not on ability to pay Our program seeks to contribute to the community by providing special needs children with a unique opportunity to improve their physical, mental and emotional capabilities through interaction with horses.

My son Scott, who has multiple disabilities, has been riding at Freedom Farm since their doors opened. Words cannot express what riding there has done for him, physically, socially, and cognitively. Susie and her small band of volunteers are our heroes!

my 17-year old son, brett, has been riding at freedomfarm since April 2009. he was in a car accident in August 2008. because of his severe traumatic brain injury, he now has to relearn to walk, talk, eat, think, everything. largely due to riding doc (brett's horse) at freedomfarm and susie's expert nurturance and instruction, brett has now learned to stand tall with good posture and balance!!! his super tight muscle tone is looser. he can sit up and reach for things with ease now. brett is on the road to learning to walk again, and doc and susie and freedomfarm have played a key role in brett's recovery so far!!! brett will continue to ride as long as he needs to in his quest to walk again. please help make this happen for brett and other kids that rely on riding horses to re-gain lost abilities. thank you susie and freedomfarm!!!!

Priceless! I just gave the gift that might help an injured military veteran to walk again. Earlier this month, I visited FreedomFarm and saw with my own eyes how therapy with horses can help children. A child with Autism can learn to communicate with the outside world. And the motion of sitting on a walking horse can help an injured person to learn to balance and develop their muscles to walk again. FreedomFarm is a small operation with individualized attention. Susie is that special person with a healing touch, and she selects and trains her volunteers carefully. Your donation to FreedomFarm will be wisely used to care for 9 therapy horses, and expand the therapy program to provide services to military veterans and their families by providing resources to train volunteers to work with special needs like Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Post Traumatic Stress (PTS). Happy Holidays! My shopping is done. Given in honor of my family members, who don't need any more 'stuff' made across the ocean.
