The Mission of Free To Be, Inc. is “Fostering Independence by Providing Car Care.”
Our program helps families & individuals in the Anoka County area with their transportation needs.
Free To Be responds to a critical service need in Anoka County by reducing one of the primary barriers to employment through car repair and car donation to individuals most in need. The goal is to help individuals and families that are economically disadvantaged by removing transportation barriers.
Since inception Free To Be has donated almost 850 cars and repaired over 3,500 vehicles for families in need.
Over the years, Free To Be has received special recognition. Some of these recognitions include: 2006 Governor's Faith and Community Service Initiatives Best Practices Award, 2007 Nonprofit Excellence Award with Honorable Mention from the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits, 2008 tptMN produced a documentary on car donation called “Restoring Hope One Car at a Time”, using Free To Be as the exemplary program, 2009 Metro North Chamber of Commerce Excellence in Business Service Award and in 2012 we received the Nonprofit of the Year Award from the Twin Cities North Chamber of Commerce.
