What if you had to decide which of your children will eat today because there's not enough food in the house for everyone?

What if you had to choose between feeding your children or putting gas in your car to make it to your job?

What if you had to choose between food and running water?

These are the situations facing an increasing number of households in Central Minnesota - our friends and neighbors. Every individual and family in Central Minnesota who uses the food shelf has a different life circumstance. The food they need is essential to their survival, and the well-being of our community.

• More than 1.9 million pounds of food were distributed by Catholic Charities and The Salvation Army last year.
• When comparing 2008 to 2009, there was a 22 percent increase in households utilizing local food shelves.
• Sixty percent of all food shelf clients are working.

Food is still needed, and appreciated! However, with the resources of the Second Harvest Food Bank, the local food shelves can feed a family of four for one week for as little as $30!
