Fighting Famine in Somalia

The Mosaic Company will match all donations to ARC for famine relief in Somalia made on GiveMN.org, dollar-for-dollar up to $100,000. Mosaic will also cover all transactions fees so that for every dollar you donate, ARC will receive two dollars to fight famine in Somalia.

ARC has had a team on the ground in Somalia since mid-July, offering lifesaving aid to families who have fled their drought-stricken homes and have nothing to eat.

Thousands of families in Somalia need our help.

Here’s a quick look at what we’ve accomplished so far with the help of our supporters:

• With the help of our partner, the American Relief Agency for the Horn of Africa (ARAHA), we’ve distributed food, tarps for shelter, water containers, cooking pots and other necessities.
• We’ve provided government agencies with technical support in dealing with the influx of people fleeing famine-affected areas, and established a registration system for the Badbaado Camp, home to 30,000 people.
• We're providing relief in the 3 largest camps in Mogadishu - Tarabunka, Rajo and Badbaado. We’ve constructed a water system in Rajo Camp to provide clean drinking water to serve 50,000 people, and together with ARAHA, are building latrines, washing facilities and kitchens there.
• We're helping at Benadir Children’s Hospital to ensure the hospital has adequate supplies, staff, equipment and medicine. So far, we've provided 100 hospital beds, 300 mosquito nets, clothes for 300 children, four computers for medical staff and other items. We're building latrines and setting up child friendly spaces. We're also preparing a mobile clinic to care for families who can't make it to the hospital.

We’ve been working closely with Somalis living in the United States. Minnesota is home to the largest Somali population in the United States. Somali Americans and the local community are joining forces to help.

Families, neighbors, civic groups and businesses in Minnesota are banding together. They’re holding fundraisers and collecting donations. They’re giving their time and money to help people in need. Because reaching out is what we Minnesotans do.
