Work Incentives Connection
A project of Goodwill/Easter Seals Minnesota
Work Incentives Connection is a program of Goodwill/Easter Seals Minnesota, which helps people with disabilities work out of poverty.
The Work Incentives Connection provides answers about the impact of work on benefits, so people with disabilities can see their choices and take advantage of life's opportunities. Outcome data consistently shows that Connection participants go to work, take promotions, work more hours and reduce their dependence on government benefits over time.
Too often, having a disability means living in poverty. Government programs provide a basic level of subsistence, but often have rules that discourage those who are willing and able to work. Social Security, health care and housing programs have complicated requirements, making it difficult to tell how earnings will affect benefits. Some people understandably limit their work hours and forego promotions because the true financial impact of working is not clear. Others don’t even try to seek employment, and they remain in poverty throughout their lives.
The Work Incentives Connection addresses these barriers by helping people with disabilities navigate complicated benefit rules about working. The Connection serves people with all types of disabilities throughout Minnesota. We also assist family members, providers, advocates and others who support people with disabilities in going to work.
The Work Incentives Connection recently merged with Goodwill/Easter Seals MN. This partnership will enable the Connection's comprehensive benefits assistance services to thrive and grow for the benefit of Minnesotans with disabilities, their families and communities.
