We are creating a new exhibit commemorating the 150th anniversary of Minnesota's role in the Civil War and Dakota War of 1862.

Minnesota offered the first troops to defend the Union but then fought a civil war at home – The Dakota War of 1862. This ambitious exhibit will preserve and tell the story of 22,000 Minnesotans who served and the enduring legacy of the War on the state’s population. Uniformed mannequins, rare artifacts, photographs, and interactive computer terminals will graphically bring to life the two wars that claimed 600 lives on southern battlefields and over double that number on the home front. The exhibit will be free and open to the public and visiting school groups through the sesquicentennial years.
