Thanks to faithful supporters like you, the Bicycle Alliance of Minnesota (BikeMN) is 1,600 strong with members from 130 communities around the state. Your donation will help us move even closer toward our goal of making Minnesota the MOST bicycle friendly state in the nation by 2015! Your contribution will help us to strengthen:
OUR EDUCATION PROGRAM: Our network of League Cycling Instructors (LCIs) continues to grow with numbers approaching 100. Our current curriculum, based on the Smart Cycling Program, reached several thousand adults and youth in 2013. It now includes offerings in Safe Routes to School, bike rodeos, youth classes, group riding, commuting, commercial driver training plus bikeable community workshops. To expand the scope of bike education, BlueCross BlueShield of MN and BikeMN, in partnership with MnDOT and eight pilot communities, began the process to develop a Safe Routes to School Bicycle Education Curriculum for Minnesota. Bike education has been absent from most of our schools for nearly 20 years. The creators of this program hope to change that by reengaging schools, training physical education teachers and providing bike safety and skills knowledge to children.
OUR ADVOCACY EFFORTS: In the last four years, BikeMN has not only grown and matured, it has carried the priorities of Minnesota cyclists throughout the state. Every year we organize a Minnesota Bike Summit, which brings more than 125 supporters to the halls of our State Capitol. And every spring, we coordinated a delegation of Minnesota bicyclists who travel to the National Bike Summit in Washington, DC. The BikeMN Advocacy Committee is meeting on a regular basis to gear up for the 2014 legislative session. If you are interested in assisting with our advocacy efforts, please contact us.
BikeMN SPONSORED EVENTS AND PROMOTION: BikeMN produced several events this summer to fulfill our mission to encourage more people to ride bikes more often. The 33rd annual Tour of Saints brought 1,100 cyclists to the delightful St. Joseph area in July. In September, 5,600 riders took to the streets to enjoy the 19th annual Saint Paul Classic. And in October 1,400 bicyclists braved chilly temperatures to explore the beautiful Minnesota and Blue Earth River Valleys at the 3rd annual Mankato River Ramble.
