Bay Lake Camp

Bay Lake Camp makes a difference in the lives of kids and families from the city by offering the opportunity of a lifetime for some, to experience God's creation in a unique, island wilderness setting. For some, it's their first time out of the city or on a vacation of any kind, and the results are amazing! Think about the first time you went to camp or hiked a trail by the water or were away from your family for the first time. Camp allows kids to be transformed through their own independence, and Bay Lake Camp is one of very few places in the nation to offer that experience to urban youth and their families.

One of the things that means the most to me is our summer internship program. Every year, friends tell friends about being on staff at Bay Lake Camp and we form a tight-knit staff family representing diverse traditions and backgrounds. These high school and college age young adults learn about everything from cleaning toilets to catering weddings for 300. In the process, they learn a lot about who they are and who they want to become. Currently, our summer staff is led by a collaboration of paid and volunteer staff, many who have been with us since 2000 as young campers. They are the ones to carry the vision forward into the future for the next generation of urban campers connecting to the wilderness and finding their dreams in the process.
